Things Are Greening Up
Spring, it feels to me, has finally arrived here at the Cabin. Things seemed to go from grey to green in a matter of a week around the Central Texas areaa. Here, we are well over a month into Spring, and the green is only now beginning the dominate the color of the landscape. Some of the oaks are beginning to leaf out, while on others the buds look just ready to pop open.
Lots Ado but Nothing Really New
Lots of little things going on keeping me busy, but nothing of note worthy of a post. Catching up from the past couple of weeks goings on.
On the critter front:
Chuck and Susu have finally woken up fully and have been scurrying about. They have been spending more time around the Shedroom than before Winter. I put them some seeds out today on the porch. I can get some good close looks at them now, with the hope of actually being able to tell the difference between the two (or maybe more for that matter).
Critter Update
The deer seemed to have moved on. I read that they will move to higher ground as the Spring progresses. I haven’t seen them in almost a week. And the last piles of food I put out have gone uneaten (I guess the birds don’t care for it). The last time I saw them was when we got that last bit of snow. I thought it was because of the snow, but perhaps that was coincidence, and they were on the move, because all the groups I have observed over the Winter were together.
Destructive Deer, Chuck and Susu, and Spring Is Coming
The deer have gotten a bit full of themselves. Over the last couple of weeks they’ve destroyed one bird feeder, and I have had to rearrange the remaining feeders. I had already hung all the feeders because they were emptying them in one night when left on the stumps. Even then, they weren’t up high enough. I caught a couple on the camera rearing up on their hind legs trying to get at the bird feed.
But It Finally Got Here
The snow stayed spotty all day yesterday. The sky would darken up, and the snow would come down heavy for a bit. Then things would slack off, and sometimes even blue sky could be seen, before another round of snow would come through.
The wind, however, rarely let up. It was the highest winds I have seen since being here, and definitely the longest, sustained winds. There were times throughout the day when even around the cabin was windy, and again, those winds were the greatest I’ve so far experienced.
