Winter Isn’t Done Yet
More snow on the way
Blowing in right now, no snow yet, but some of the highest winds I have experienced yet. Fortunately the cabin sits in a protected spot. So at ground level I don’t experience much wind. But I can hear it whipping through the trees. From the forecasts I am expecting close to 10 inches of snow over the next coupla three days.
In other news: I received the new battery, and installed it Sunday. So far so good. It performed well last night and the rate of discharged seemed greatly improved. They also did well today with cloudy weather, even with me having the gaming rig going, the work laptop charging and the TV on, I didn’t have to run the generator until well into the evening. I gave the batteries a two charge, and we’ll see how they hold up the rest of the night, and deal with probably no sun tomorrow.
I was correct in thinking Splitear had told the ladies about the eats around the cabin. He was back with a lady friend the next night, and has brought a few more over.
But he wasn’t discrete enough, and now there is are quite a few coming back each day/night. They’ve kinda have become a problem. They clued in on the bird feeders, and emptied both of them in one night, almost 15 pounds of seed. Plus the males are clumsy with their antlers and knock the feeders off their stands, and have even come up close to the cabin and knocked over things. So I picked up a mineral block, and some general animal feed, and set those up away from the cabin. Hoping they will be happy with that and tend to stay away a bit. Until then I will hand feed the birds each day. Once the snow has passed I will relocate the feeders to where the deer can’t get to them.
Finally, the chipmunks are still staying burrowed up for the most part, or are spending time in other parts of the property, as I have only seen them on occasion. And just one at a time.
